Cleaning crucibles

Dear Chsc

I posed exactly the same question last year and someone replied that in the scheme of things crucibles are almost considered as disposable items so is it really worth your time and effort to clean them?

Not sure this helps but it certainly changed my perspective on this pesky problem. I bought more and now keep the really dirty ones for magesium and sulfur.

Cleaning crucibles

Hi all, Like most of you, we now dispose of the really dirty crucibles, after they have been reused several times for the same chemicals. Also, you can use the clean sides, crushed, as boiling chips. Put paper towel under and over the broken crucible, and hit with a hammer until in small pieces. This also works with evaporating basins.

Make sure your boiling chips are very very clean. Being a Porus item, only the very clean will work.
