Thanks everyone
Looks like I'll be chasing up some potassium ferricyanide. Problem is we are quite a small rural town. Its a good thing I'm quite adapt at letting my fingers do the walking. I'll see what I can find.
Cheers and thanks again everyone

Thanks Labbie,
I know QLD and NSW don't always match up but I'll defer to the greater knowledge of people on Chemtalk

potassium Chlorate
Hi all, I know this subject has been hashed out before on chem talk but If anyone can give some additional conformation it would be great. All I have from Ed QLD is the following: List of prohibited chemicals Students (EQ Schools) Potassium chlorate in the preparation of oxygen with manganese dioxid...

Ballistics
Hi all, Our senior physics class will be starting their EEI's in a couple of weeks and the topic is ballistics. I'm trying to find some experiments that the students shouldn't turn into anything too dangerous for the physics teacher to use as guides. I said I'd ask around Chemtalk to find out what o...

Re: Glocves and Face Shields
Seeing as I am the WH&S officer for my schools senior and middle campuses I've got more folders of codes of practice and occupational health units so I've just done some digging and this is the best I found. I'll admit that this is for QLD but the difference between states shouldn't be too varie...

Re: cat and mouse
As much as I have loved the fun comments I have an idea what they might have meant. If its tansfering energy maybe they mean something like those steel ball things you see. You lift one end and swing it towards the others and the energy is transfered down the line until the ball on the far end swing...

Re: egg membrane
The Golden syrup is used in the second part of the prac. After you have removed the shells of the eggs you put one in water which will cause the egg to swell and one in Golden syrup which will cause the egg to shrivel.
I've never tried one with saltwater, do you get a good reaction?

Re: QCAT science test Qld
I set the QCAT pracs up for our teacher a couple of weeks ago and it apparently worked quite well. To make my hydrometers I bought new blutack (I find its a little bit more sticky than stuff thats been used before or left out) and used a piece that was about the size of a pea. The nails I used were ...

Re: VAN de GRAAF Generator!!!!!
The Van de Graaffs are sooo much fun. I've got to order new belts for ours this year. I've attached the information I found online and I love setting up these demos. The tin plates get a great reaction from the students. As for the safety. We don't let anyone with a heart condition or pace maker use...

Cleaning and calibrating microscopes
When it comes to the microscopes in everybodies labs, what do you all do about cleaning and calibrating? Every year in the past when we got a flyer about technitions who would be coming into the area to service microscopes and balances the Chem teacher kept telling me no. Its to expensive and easy t...

Re: New Dropper Bottles
I'm looking at ordering more dropper bottles soon and these sound great. I've got all amber glass at the moment so I'm going to ask a silly question.
Are there any particular chemicals or concentrations that really shouldn't go into these plastic bottles?
Cheers

Re: Who does this?
I've just gone through the same problems with our gas lines over at our middle campus. I file all the reports for maintenance on our portal site for anything in the labs or prep room becasue I'm the one who knows where everything is (most of the time). The problem is getting the teachers to let me k...

Re: Prac Order Forms
This is the form I've been using since I started as a labbie in 2007. I've tweaked it a little bit so teachers could add extra information easier. I keep a small bundle on both my desks (printed double sided) at the senior and middle campus and I'm trying to get teachers to send me a quick email to ...

Re: supplying own paper towel
I've just been through this at our school and the Principle and the finance managers have told me that it needs to come out of the cleaners budget and when they go through the labs they are the ones to refill the paper towel and soap dispencers, or at least leave me a supply in a cupboard so I can r...

Hi Everyone, Our senior campus labs are recieving an entire overhaul this semester and I've got just under two weeks to clear them out.
