Bio-plastic embedding

Post by ri »

Hi All,
we have some specimens embedded in bio-plastic and they have become scratched enough so that the animal can't be seen distinctly.
Does anyone know a reliable way to fix this problem?
Cheers,
Robyn

you can use a very fine sand paper 220 wet/dry or a very fine steel wool 00 000 or 0000 don't know where you get it but maybe the bunnings the polish with tin oxide or car polish rub on rub off with a clean rag
If you send me you address I have a good book on Embedded specimens

Are you coming to St Mary's if so I will give you one.

Thanks Noona, for the advice, it sounds good to me.
Nooo, not going to St Marys, I am minding the fort while my workmates attend instead. It is always a good time at these Inservices and boy the food is always great, too.
I think I have the Embedding book. Is it the one, paperback, from Southern Biological? Must suss it out again and see if there is any info on restoring them. Didn't think of that, thanks and enjoy the conference.
Cheers,
Robyn

Will do Rosalie.
Her name is Amanda and she is doing your workshop plus bringing one that demonstrates our problem.
Enjoy,

After the sand paper if your block is still murky use, Bicarb, a drop of water & soft cloth then dry. Next, toothpaste, water and soft cloth.
You need to add muscle as well!
These are finer abrasives which help polish up the surface.
