I have also learnt by experience to be very careful which teacher you correct. You have to get to know them. Some are ok about it, but others think they are one step under Einstein and so know everything... I have years of experience in Industry and was RA for the Prof of Chemistry at local Uni, so ...

To make agar plates using a microwave, I put the ingredients into a glas Schott bottle, and microwave on full power for 8-10 mins... then pour into sterile petri dishes as usual.. When I worked in Research at Newcastle Uni - we had lots of the stuff.. schools used to send it to us to clean.... why not see if any Uni close to you has a little to let you have??

I think there was talk of banning them because some idiots have been blinding pilots coming in to land in Sydney with them.. I think that they are permitted to be sold and used in educational organizations..... I think....
